We Shall Not Give Up The Fight

Words & Music:  Traditional South African

Our choir was formed in 1987 to sing at an anti-apartheid event in Sydney Town Hall so we thought it fitting that our third album commemorating two decades of choral activism take a song from South Africa for its title track. The people’s victory in that country inspires us with hope for the many other struggles we face, and their courage has given the world many powerful songs. We love singing this one - and the second verse is by our own Penny Harrington. For the next twenty years at least, in solidarity with movements for peace and democracy around the world, we shall not give up the fight! Indeed we have only started.

We shall not give up the fight
We have only started
We have only started
We have only started

Refugees are welcome here
Let’s be open hearted
Let’s be open hearted
Let’s be open hearted

Together we’ll have victory
Hand holding hand
Hand holding hand
Hand holding hand
