We are the Solidarity Choir, and we sing songs of freedom – on the streets, at picket lines, folk festivals, gatherings of celebration and of sorrow, but also just for fun on the beach, or in the park (not to mention in the pub!).
Our songs of freedom and struggle come from all around the world, including our own country, where racism, inequality and environmental destruction cry out for action.
This webpage outlines who we are and how we work, but you will no doubt have more questions - so please feel free to get in touch with us via the contact flag above.

We always welcome people to check out our practice in Newtown on Thursday nights. Phone or email to find out when and how to get there.
New basses, tenors, altos and sopranos appreciated. We are currently working towards three performances at the National Folk Festival in Canberra at Easter, but this is a good opportunity to pick up the dozen or so songs we are polishing up for that event. We will also be performing two songs at Politics In The Pub before then. Come along, pick up a couple of songs (to an adequate standard), and sing with us.
The Solidarity Choir celebrated its 20th anniversary on Saturday night 31 March 2007 at Leichhardt Town Hall.
The night was multi-faceted. We had a CD launch; we met again with former members from as far back as the founding concert; we hosted people from many of the community groups we have supported; and we sang on stage with other choirs who have supported us over twenty years.
The event raised $3,150 for Union Aid Abroad APHEDA, the Australian Trade Union overseas aid organisation.
The Solidarity Choir was formed in 1987 to sing Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika at the Sydney Town Hall as part of the Civic Welcome for Oliver Tambo, the then-exiled President of the African National Congess. APHEDA was instrumental in creating the Choir that sang on that night.
The experience convinced the choir members to stick together and to sing songs in solidarity with international struggles for freedom.
Supporting artists on the night included:
Our third CD "We Shall Not Give Up The Fight" was launched on the night with bracket of songs from the CD.
Leichhardt Council supported the event by donating the use of the Hall.
